Some paintings have a life before they’re even born.

A few months ago, a couple stopped by my studio—just to browse. They were drawn to a few of my Gemstone Series pieces, interested in two in particular. But there was one catch: none were quite the right size for the space they had in mind.

We started talking.

They shared photos of their room, wall dimensions, and what drew them to the pieces they loved. The colors, the mood, the sparkle. From there, I quoted a price, offered a framing option, and once approved… we were off.

As part of my process, I shared progress photos—snapshots of layers building. This last photo was the sketch of the landscape I intended. The final step is the gemstones being added, shimmer beginning to dance in the light. This wasn’t just a painting—it was a piece designed for their space, their energy, their view. It was my pleasure to create this piece for them. A certificate of authenticity and artist statement accompanied the painting when I delivered it.

Now titled Moments Before the Moon, the painting is 48” high by 60” wide. It’s layered with natural stones like amethyst, jade, dragon’s blood, carnelian, abalone, and blue agate—alongside glistening glass bits and metallics. A quiet water scene, touched by evening light, with soft coral skies and calm reflections. It’s meant to capture that hush just before nightfall.

There’s nothing quite like witnessing someone experience a piece made just for them.

If you’ve ever wondered about commissioning a piece, I’d love to talk. It’s such a personal, collaborative process—and I truly love helping people bring something one-of-a-kind into their homes.

All my best,

Gina
